I can’t be the only one whose thumb or fingers has snapped a rather suggestive photo from their camera phone. The only thing that would have made this pic perfect, is if it was in front of the Palace Hotel instead of the AUD. I’m thinking a group art show where people can post their […]
Don’t dream it – Be it
It was 1979 and I got my first big acting break playing Brad Majors in the Toronto production of the Rocky Horror Show. It was an open audition, a “cattle call,” where every actor in the city tried out. Frankly, I’m not sure how I got the part. The show was put on in an […]
Why we love food and living in a small town
A happenstance run-in with my friend Taz who was carrying a big bag of yellow squash he had grown in his garden. After lamenting how the squash bugs decimated the local crop, he generously handed over the bag with a big hug, saying, “enjoy” He also sent me a great recipe for squash fritters which […]
The Giant Ichneumon Wasp
I Googled “giant wasp with big ass stinger” after this creature landed on my television screen. Up popped the Giant Icheumon wasp, whose 5- inch stinger is actually an ovipositor for laying eggs. “Completely harmless” – which gave me the courage to escort her safely outside. According to Wikipedia – Megarhyssa macrurus is considered harmless to humans;[1][5] they […]
Which came first – the flower or the vase?
While scouting the garden for inspiration for another POSY photograph, I came across some neglected pink Zinnias that were well past their peak and that should have been deadheaded to make room for new growth. I thought the flowers were a little too faded and tattered to make for a pretty Posy picture until I […]
Artists Hands
Strong, yet sensitive. These are the hands of a master potter, capable of moving several pounds of clay on a spinning wheel while delicately shaping the heavy blob into a thing of beauty. These are the hands of Jim Wallace, who almost lost one of the tools of his trade (his thumb) to an axe, […]
Yesterday’s visit
At home, on the phone, it caught the corner of my eye – a large wing. The hawk landed on the rail of our deck, its head slightly bowed, looking down at the spot where I landed more than 10 months ago from the fall. A cautionary message or one of encouragement and strength? Maybe […]
One Daylily at a Time
“One Daylily at a Time” is a POSY homage to all my “Anonymous” friends out there. The pic is part of POSY 2 – the continuing series of photographs of flowers in vases that will be on view at the Norberta Philbrook Gallery mid-July. Thanks to the positive response of last month’s gallery opening and […]
A Fading Memory
Even though Obama won the 2008 Electoral College and the popular vote, there was still almost 46 percent of the population that voted for McCain/Palin. The hand painted sign on passion Play Rd. is fading, hopefully foreshadowing the end of the Republican Party. It’s mind numbing that a senile old hawk and a blathering idiot came so […]
Summer Perfect
The summer’s first perfect tomato thanks to Sycamore Bend Farms. Sliced and place on toasted 5 grain sourdough bread, slathered with fresh goat cheese, a dab of mayo and a dash of salt and pepper. Divine. It even matched my chipped anti- SWEPCO nail polish.
