I was determined NOT to use a doll or doll parts in my latest assemblage created specifically for the group Resolution exhibit this Saturday. Alas, I failed.
It started again with another shoeshine box that became the base, followed by several attached objects including a child’s prosthetic leg.
It’s hard to describe one’s own creative process – how and why objects come together to make symbolic sense. It’s largely intuitive, this process, where objects you have collected for some strange reason seem to shout at you from the box or shelves where they lay.
And that’s exactly what happened when searching for something to place inside the shoebox to anchor and shine meaning to the entire piece.
Reaching for an object on my very crowded top shelf, I accidently knocked something over. There on the ground, staring up at me, were two large, wide-open, blue eyes that quietly shouted, “use me you fucking idiot.”
Resolution starts Saturday at noon with an opening artist reception from 5 til 9 p.m. at The Space in Eureka Springs. The show continues the following Sunday from 10 til 4.
