My fondness for cut flowers stems back to my childhood when I would surprise my mother with a bouquet of wildflowers I’d pick on my way home from school. I most always have some vase full of flowers in my house during spring and summer, hence a large collection of vases, and hence, a new series of photographs of flowers in vases on view at the Norberta Philbrook Gallery. “Posy” is a collection of 16 small, framed photographs shot in natural light, set around my home. They will be on display at the gallery on North Main St. in Eureka Springs starting this Saturday with an opening reception from 6 til 9 p.m. The exhibit will be a permanent feature at the gallery. Please stop by and say hello.

One of the first things we always did upon arriving at my grandmother’s cabin in the woods for a stay out on the country near St. Francisville, LA, was to collect a few blooms for a centerpiece on the kitchen table, and still do as part of ‘opening’ the house. My grandfather, a mechanical engineer, after the war, started growing Magnolia trees in a nursery he created near the Pearl River. So, clipping those huge fragrant, sensitive flowers has always reminded me of his amazing forest. I don’t think I could live in a place where I couldn’t grow and clip flowers. Looking forward to seeing your Posies!

Well, you and Mary have certainly out-done yourselves with a peony garden that is pure magic. What a wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing and for coming out to the show.
