I’ve always loved photographs of hands –this is the first of an iPhone series – pictures of friend’s hands who also happen to be artists. John Stalling – metal worker/sculptor
I am not the artist but my father, Robert B. “Bapo” Rees is. Although retired from his metal sculpture work, he works quietly from home hand carving and finalizing with his perception and perfection of beauty, wooden tobacco pipes. While the work is not displayed anywhere, as he does it for himself it is a gift to watch him work from beginning to end, to see him hold his fingers in just such a way as to achieve a certain curve in a line of the design….it is a gift. And his hands are the tools of his mind. Quite a story to achieve in a picture. As his daughter, I might be a bit biased, but I think his hands were provided to create beauty as their main purpose in this life, which he has done admirably.
Hey Richelle – I am a huge fan of your fathers and have two of his clock pieces in my home. He was part of the original 2004 artist portrait series I did which you can find listed under photography if interested. I would love to see Bob and take a portrait of his hands. Email me your contact info and we hopefully can set up a day. Thanks for contacting me, I love that he is still creating. What a gifted artist he is. johnrankine69@gmail.com
