Hand and screen-printed clothing

April 30, 2014 By John Rankine Leave a Comment

I began making one-of-a-kind, dyed/stenciled t-shirts for friends in the early 1980’s and soon found myself selling them to several trendy stores along Queen St. W in Toronto before moving to Key west in 1984.
I continued exploring different forms of printmaking, adding printed drawstring pants and shorts to the mix and selling the unisex clothing to tourists at the dock on Mallory Square.
I began a line of hand screened and painted t-shirts that I sold to several shops in Key West before opening up my own gallery, “Is It Art?” in the 900 block of Duval St.
Here I was able to expand and create an entire women’s line of hand printed clothing that I sold for more than 10 years.
I stopped printmaking altogether in 1998 after my move from Key West to Eureka Springs in 96.
