I was approached by Creative Energy producer Jeremy Mason McGraw about creating a portrait series for the 2013 Eureka Springs May
Festival of the Arts.
Since it was timed for the art festival, I thought there could be no better subject matter than the artists who make up our quirky little town, Eureka Springs.
I photographed portraits of artists making silly faces – blew up and printed the 3’ x 4’ foot posters, and wallpapered them to exterior walls of buildings downtown. A poster featuring all the artists was made available for sale.
A hardcore group of volunteers made the wall papering process an event unto itself, and an over-the-top poster party/artist celebration was held in the garden of the luxurious Queen Ann Mansion.
During the third weekend in May we held a graffiti event where we invited the public to enhance the portraits with the aid of magic markers we provided.
The entire process from beginning to end (well, not having to scrape the posters off) was creative, fun, public, inter-active and paid homage to our local creative community.
